Police in Bergen County are on the hunt for the person responsible for stealing an adorable 2-month-old puppy from a family’s home.
The puppy, named Blair, is owned by 16-year-old Saddle Brook resident Miguel Perez. He says that the puppy was stolen on Monday while he was at school.
“I’m really sad. I was really starting to like her, and so were my parents,” Perez says.
Perez says that the theft happened when the family was not home, sometime between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. He says that he got a call from his brother who went to the house to walk their other dog, Thor. The brother says that he found the rear basement door busted open and Blair was gone from her kennel. Nothing else was taken from the home.
“I went out with [Thor] to see if he could find her, if he could smell her around. After that, I called the cops,” Perez says.
Police say they think that Blair was targeted by someone who knew that no one would be home at the family’s house.
“It’s most likely that someone stole the puppy with the intention of selling it off-market,” says Saddle Brook Police Chief Robert Kugler.
The police and the mayor say that they are attempting to flood social media with Blair’s picture so that people will recognize her if they see she is for sale.
“People are, they’re heartbroken over it,” says Mayor Robert White. “Cute, little puppy. Only 2 months old. It’s an adorable puppy and they feel for the owner.”
Anyone who may have information about the theft is asked to call Saddle Brook police at 201-843-7000.
