Chinese restaurants say coronavirus fears have led to dip in customers

Some Chinese restaurants on Long Island are telling News 12 that they have seen a dramatic dip in customers since the emergence of the coronavirus.
Despite the Lunar New Year celebrations, Jeff Sang – manager of Zho Ji Dumpling in Glen Cove – says business is down 20-30%.
He says he's taken every precaution necessary, making sure workers wash their hands. He says he has also has been monitoring his workers’ temperatures to make sure they are not coming in sick.
So far in China, there have been more than 700 deaths reported and more than 34,000 reported cases of the virus. There have been no confirmed cases in New York and officials say the risk remains low.
Some Chinese Americans told News 12 that they have been discriminated against over fears of the coronavirus. Guodong Zhang, the president of the Long Island Chinese American Association says he hopes people won’t continue to carry around prejudices.
“Proceed with your life as usual,” he told News 12. “Don't let fear steer your life. It's safe and OK to go to [a] Chinese restaurant.”
Stony Brook University canceled its annual Chinese New Year celebration Saturday, saying it was out of an abundance of caution.
