Health Matters: A new study finds nearly a third of measles cases result in other issues

Posted: Updated:

A new study finds nearly a third of measles cases result in other issues like pneumonia, hepatitis and viral meningitis.

Researches say measles can be prevented with a vaccine, but that anti-vaccination campaigns have contributed to a rise in cases.

Researchers at Columbia University in New York, tracked the sleep patterns of 500 women and their eating habits over the course of a year, and found that those who struggle to fall asleep often ate foods higher in calories.

Those who wake up a lot throughout the night tend to eat fattier foods.

The findings provide fresh insight into why bad sleepers are at risk of heart disease and other issues.

A later bedtime could come with an increased risk of obesity for preschoolers.

A new study finds that children who habitually went to sleep after 9 p.m. had a wider waist and higher body mass index.

Researchers say that's a reason to encourage parents to maintain regular bedtime routines for their children.
