News 12 is taking on a new challenge - by participating in Cycle For Survival, an event that raises money to fight rare types of cancer.
People at Equinox locations around the U.S., including in Woodbury, will ride together on stationary bikes to raise money for rare cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
Organizers say that Cycle For Survival is in its 10th anniversary and is held in 17 cities nationwide. They say in 2020, with 1,200 riders participating, they will hit $250 million fundraised for research.
This year, News 12 will be riding as part of Carol's Crew, to support former News 12 anchor Carol Silva.
Silva says she is on a drug to treat her cancer that was studied and funded by the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
"Everybody has the opportunity to become a part of the cure," Silva says.
Rare cancer patients make up about half of all people fighting cancer, but they often have limited or no treatment options.
More information on how to donate to Cycle For Survival can be found here.
