Greenwich Point is temporarily closed to dogs because of a distemper outbreak in the raccoon population.
Officials say they had to call in extra staff over the weekend and turn away up to 400 cars because they found dead raccoons on the beach.
Distemper is a virus that is very contagious in animals.
The Greenwich Health Department says it tested the raccoons for rabies, but the tests came back negative.
Officials say the ban is in effect until further notice.
News 12 reached out to the Greenwich Health Department for comment but did not hear back.
