Sixteen Bridgeport police officers were recognized Sunday at the Bridgeport mayor's office for rushing to help people in two separate life-or-death situations.
One case involved a rescue in the North End of Bridgeport early Tuesday morning. Officers responded to a car fire on Chopsey Hill Road. They tipped over the overturned vehicle and rescued the trapped and injured woman inside.
Back in September, a group of four officers rescued a man who was about to jump off the Route 8/25 overpass, posing a threat not only to himself but also to drivers on the busy highway below.
State and local leaders are calling the recognition ceremony a great day for Bridgeport.
