Officials from Hartford Healthcare, which also operates St. Vincent's in Bridgeport, announced new visitor restrictions from their COVID Command Center on Tuesday.
At all of their facilities, including medical clinics, visitors will now be required to get their temperature taken and will have to answer a series of questions about places they've traveled to and people with whom they've been in contact. Patients will also be limited to one visitor at a time.
So far, Hartford Healthcare says it has enough protective gear for workers, including face masks.
The command center has been busy since the coronavirus made its way to the state. Officials say they have fielded more than 1,000 phone calls from the public and from doctors across the county.
In the command center, nurses say they have been mainly separating fact from fear.
"I think having this available to people 24/7 definitely provides a sense of calmness,” says nurse Carolyn Bousquet.
Anyone with a question can call the command center at 833-621-0600. Anyone who wants to speak to the state Department of Health can call 211.
