Thriving liquor store owner spreads positive energy, donations for struggling neighbors
While many businesses are taking a hit amid new restrictions due to the coronavirus, some liquor stores are thriving.
Parag Patel, owner of Turnpike Spirit Shop in Fairfield, told News 12 that he has seen an increase in business. He’s also aware that neighboring businesses are hurting and has a plan to help.
For the next week, Patel is donating 10% of his pre-tax sales to restaurants in the area and a local gym. He's also asking his customers if they wouldn't mind "rounding up" their purchases to the nearest dollar. That change goes into a bucket for those businesses in need.
Patel says customers have been more than happy to do so, with some throwing in extra money.
In just one day, he was able to collect $140 in the bucket. He is aiming to raise $8,000 to split among several locations and hopes other businesses will do the same.
“As the virus spreads, so can positive energy and so can good will and good actions,” says Patel.
