An early morning fire in a three-story boarding house in Milford sent two people to the hospital on Saturday.
Crews battled the bulk of the blaze on the second floor of the Crowley Avenue home.
Chief Thomas Thornberg says navigating the interior of the house was challenging.
"It's very cut up, small rooms, a lot of turns, so stretching the lines took a lot of manpower," he told News 12.
Fire officials say that if the door wasn’t closed on the second story, the outcome could have been much worse.
Everyone inside was able to escape safely. The two hospitalizations were for minor burns and minor smoke inhalation. They are expected to be OK. A cat was also rescued.
The Red Cross is assisting those that are displaced. It wasn’t clear what sparked the blaze.
