Metro-North trains will operate on a reduced schedule until further notice beginning today.

The announcement comes as Gov. Ned Lamont says ridership is down 95% amid the coronavirus outbreak.

On Monday, Connecticut's governor issued a "Stay Safe, Stay Home" executive order - meaning only essential workers can report to work.

The MTA is calling the schedule their "essential service plan."

A tweet from the MTA reads, "Trains are for essential travel only. Please spread out and stay healthy."

 

Trains will now operate on an amended Saturday schedule on the New Haven, Hudson and Harlem lines.

There will be additional trains for the morning and afternoon peak periods and hourly service during off-peak midday and evening periods.

During the amended schedule, there will be off-peak fares.

There will be a regular weekend schedule tomorrow and Sunday.

Starting April 4, on weekends there will be hourly service on every line until further notice.
