Lamont: 578 new cases of coronavirus reported in Connecticut, bringing total to 2,571

Gov. Ned Lamont said Monday that 578 new cases of coronavirus have been reported in Connecticut, bringing the total number of cases to 2,571.
He says there are now 36 deaths related to the virus.
Lamont says he spoke with the president and vice president on a call with other governors and discussed what the states need to combat the health crisis.
He says the state received a new shipment of N-95 masks and surgical masks from the federal government, but more PPE is needed since the hospitals are going through supplies at a rapid rate.
The governor says he urged the federal government to think of the New York metropolitan area, including Connecticut, when distributing the supplies.
Lamont says the state was supposed to get 50 ventilators but hasn't received them yet. A health official says the average number of days a person is on a ventilator is 13 days.
The doctor says the rate is about half of what it was in China.
