Curran: Nassau coronavirus death toll at 39
Nassau County Executive Laura Curran's office said Sunday that the coronavirus death toll in the county has climbed by five, for a total of 39.
The new deaths include two women and three men, each of whom had underlying health conditions. Further details on the victims were not provided.
Curran says 157 police officers in the county are off the job, either because they're in quarantine, they're awaiting test results or because they've tested positive for COVID-19. Of the 157 officers, 68 have tested positive at this time. The 157 officers include county police, as well as officers with village and city departments in the county.
Curran says an additional 31 members of the sheriff's department are also currently out; 11 of those members have tested positive for the virus.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced earlier Sunday that total cases in New York state of COVID-19 are at 59,513, with 965 deaths.
