'Flattening the curve works': 7,781 cases of coronavirus reported in CT, with 277 virus-related deaths

Gov. Ned Lamont said Tuesday that there are 7,781 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the state, with 277 virus-related deaths.
He says an additional 875 people tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, and that there were 71 new virus-related deaths - which is the largest one-day jump in deaths so far.
Lamont also says that on average, about 90 people have been hospitalized in each of the last five days.
The week before, he says there were about 102 hospitalizations within that same timeframe.
"Flattening the curve works," Lamont says.
He also announced the Safe Workplace order, under which employees must self-monitor and self-test for fevers, and that anyone with a fever over 100.4 degrees does not go into work.
The number of ventilators in the state has now increased to 1,400 from 1,000 last week.
