A special birthday celebration and family reunion was held Thursday for an 88-year-old Fairfield woman who recently beat COVID-19.
Barbara Lyddy lives at Carlton Chronic Convalescent in Fairfield where she was reunited with her four children for the first time in three months.
“It was absolutely incredible,” said her daughter Cait Lyddy. “Never did we think this was going to happen as of a month ago.”
When she was first sickened with COVID-19, her family says she was in a room that didn’t have a window and that she relied on an occasional video chat to stay up to speed.
“That all changed about two weeks ago,” says Sarah Lyddy Richard. “They rolled her to a window room, and we started window visits and her condition started to turn around quickly.”
The family applauded the medical staff for their hard work. They say Barbara worked at Carlton Chronic Convalescent for 20 years.
Barbara's dog for several years, now cared for by her son, joined in the birthday visit as well. The family kept a safe distance with “air” hugs replacing the real thing for now.
Even with masks, it was evident there were plenty of smiles.
“I think that she clearly loves her family, and it definitely warms her and perks her up to see us and just to hear our voices,” said Cait Lyddy.
