More than 1,000 people headed to Trumbull Saturday to take part in a peaceful demonstration sparked by the death of George Floyd.
Trumbull joined cities and towns across the country in expressing outrage over law enforcement after George Floyd died in police custody in Minneapolis.
Supporters say it's exactly this kind of positivity that will help stem that trend. Wayne Winston, who lives in Trumbull, says images of the protest go a long way toward bending the arc of social progress in a hopeful direction.
Of all the speeches at the podium, none drew more applause than the one given by Nigel Hayse, a Wesleyan University sophomore who grew up in Trumbull, who says he's tired of the racism.
The Trumbull Town Council and local residents, who organized the protest, called on the crowd to practice social distancing but also encouraged people to arm themselves against the virus of racism.
They thanked the crowd "for making Trumbull proud with a spirit of peaceful demonstration."
