A University of Connecticut student who led police on a multistate manhunt has been charged with a second murder in the case.
Peter Manfredonia is officially charged in connection with the murder of Nicholas Eisele, the second homicide he is accused of carrying out in a 48-hour period Memorial Day weekend.
Manfredonia is already in custody for allegedly killing Ted DeMers in Willington. He now faces new charges including murder, felony murder, kidnapping, robbery, and home invasion.
Police say on the morning of May 24, Manfredonia shot Eisele in the head in the Derby apartment Eisele shared with his girlfriend. The arrest warrant shows Manfredonia then demanded her car keys and forced her to go with him.
The woman told police she was intentionally "driving erratically in an attempt to get stopped by police," but Manfredonia ordered her "not to get pulled over because he didn't want to kill her."
During the car ride, the woman said Manfredonia talked about a homicide he had committed in Willington two days before with a samurai sword. She says he told her "he killed the people, including Nick, because they said something that triggered him and he snapped."
The woman and her car were found at a truck stop in New Jersey, near the Pennsylvania border later that day.
Police captured Manfredonia on May 27 at a gas station in Hagerstown, Maryland. He's been in custody since then.
Manfredonia is set to be arraigned on the new charges Tuesday in Milford. His bond on those charges is $5 million, on top of the $7 million for the previous charges. Manfredonia is held at Garner Correctional Institution in Newtown.
