State police say a man who stabbed two people on a tour bus was fatally shot by a trooper Tuesday night.
State police say they received several 911 calls Tuesday night about a fight on a tour bus heading to Mohegan Sun Casino from Chinatown in New York City. Police say the suspect, armed with a box cutter, stabbed two people on the bus. The driver pulled over near Exit 14, where the suspect and one of the victims fell out while fighting.
The trooper, identified as 10-year veteran Trooper First Class Marc O'Mara, had been guarding a nearby construction zone and approached the bus. Police say the suspect threatened him and O'Mara fired his weapon. The suspect was pronounced dead at Norwalk Hospital.
The woman allegedly stabbed by the suspect was treated and released from the hospital, but a man allegedly stabbed and then accidentally shot by the trooper remains hospitalized.
O'Mara has been placed on administrative duty as the investigation continues. State police are working with New York and federal officials to identify the suspect.
