A personal trainer is being called a hero for helping save the life of a 56-year-old man who collapsed during his workout.
The man was released from the hospital Tuesday after suffering a heart attack while running on the treadmill at Stamford's New York Sports Club. He is now thanking gym employees for saving his life.
Personal trainer Mark Boykin says when he found the man on the ground he was blue in the face and had no pulse. "The only thing I had in my bag of tools were chest compressions, so I immediately started chest compressions," says Boykin.
Another employee then brought out an automatic defibrillator, but when that didn't work Boykin continued compressions until the man coughed. Boykin says he credits his CPR training for helping the gym member.
The man says the cause of his heart attack was a blocked artery and that he is now feeling well.
