The United Kingdom's Prince Harry and American actress Meghan Markle made their first public appearance since announcing their engagement Monday morning.

Harry said he believes his mother, the late Princess Diana, would have been "over the moon" at the news.

At Goldenberry, a New Canaan store specializing in goods from the UK, shoppers said they were thrilled to hear the news.

Isobel Curcio, a Greenwich resident originally from the UK, says she believes the royal family has remained relevant by continuing to do good for the community -- an example set by their mother.

With Markle being American, Curcio says the engagement has also piqued interested in the United States.

The couple hasn't announced a wedding date, but it may happen in the spring of next year.
