Unplowed streets make for cold-hearted Valentine's Day

Many businesses, including florists and bakeries, lost crucial business due to last week's snow. (2/14/13)

MILFORD - Last week's blizzard has put a damper on Valentine's Day in parts of the state, costing businesses and restaurants important customers.

In Milford, people have been calling the Beach House Restaurant to see if nearby streets are plowed. The master chef says he's booked for the night, but other hot spots haven't been as lucky.

At H. Mangels Confectioner, owner Paul Mangels says he lost two days of weekend sales, which he was banking on for orders of dipped strawberries and chocolate truffles.

As for local florists, owners say large snowbanks have slowed down deliveries.
