Worker killed in accident on NYC bridge

(AP) - A worker is dead after a construction accidenton New York City's Throgs Neck Bridge.
Police say 48-year-old William Barnes was struck by the boom ofa small crane mounted on the back of a truck. The cable snapped,pinning him to the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The northbound lanes of the bridge that connects Queens to theBronx were briefly closed, but have since reopened.
The bridge is undergoing renovation this summer, and the workhas been plagued by trouble. In July, a fire started by a worker'sblowtorch shut down the bridge. Some sections didn't reopen toheavy trucks until recent weeks.
