Firefighters in Newtown responded to a basement fire Friday night.
It happened around 6 p.m. on Brushy Hill Road.
All fire crews based in Newtown responded and quickly put out the flames.
Fire officials say the fire burned through the basement ceiling and the floor joists, but did not spread to anywhere else in the home.
However, there is smoke damage throughout the home.
Firefighters helped get one person out of the home, along with five cats and two dogs, who were all alive.
The cats were handed over to the Newtown animal control.
One firefighter suffered minor injuries.
