A Greenwich 17-year-old accused in a fatal hit-and-run went before a judge today in Stamford.
Andrew Schmidt is accused of hitting and killing a pedestrian with his car earlier this year and fleeing the scene. Police say the crash happened in April by the intersection of East Putnam Avenue and Hillside Road. The man killed was later identified as Edward Setterberg, of Greenwich.
Schmidt did not enter a plea today. He will be arraigned at a later date.
Meanwhile, his attorney says he will be submitting a written motion saying this case should start in juvenile court. Schmidt is currently being charged as an adult.
Documents show that Schmidt's friends say they witnessed him hit a pedestrian. A passenger in Schmidt's car says he heard a loud boom and was told by Schmidt that he had hit a deer.
Schmidt's friends say they were coming back from a night out in Armonk, New York.
