An Ansonia family is hoping a lost ring that has been handed down for generations will somehow turn up.

The ring has an incredible story.

"In 1982, my grandfather had purchased this ring for my grandmother," said Mike Curry.

Curry's grandfather, Italo Gucciardini, was finally able to afford this ring.

A ring he gave to his wife 40 years after they were married.

"He was an immigrant from Italy. Came from nothing, struggled and he ended up dropping out of high school to go serve in World War II," said Mike Curry's wife, Wendy.

Gooch, as Italo was called, was a well-known security guard at Jonathan Law High School in Milford.

This decorated war hero was known as the walking man because he raised so much money for cancer.

When his wife Marie Grace died in his arms, Gooch wanted the ring to stay in the family.

It was eventually given to his grandson, Mike Curry, and his wife Wendy, who have been married for 8 years.

But the diamond ring, worth tens of thousands of dollars, was recently lost at a car show in Norwich, Connecticut.

"We've been back numerous times and we contacted the people that held the event. They went back with metal detectors," said Wendy Curry.

The ring is still missing.

And it's not the first time it was lost.

"This ring itself has a history," said Wendy Curry.

The Curry's say six years ago, when their daughter Mercedes was 2, she flushed the ring down the toilet.

"We took the toilet off, we rented the machine from Home Depot with the camera on it," said Wendy Curry.

Mike Curry says he finally found the ring in a trap in the sewer.

The couple hopes it will now turn up a second time.

"If I can find it, it would be amazing. It would be like hitting the lottery," said Mike Curry.

"We're praying and we're hoping that people realize what it means to us," said Wendy Curry.

A ring the Curry's hope might be shared for generations to come.

Curry is offering a $1,000 reward to whoever finds the ring.
