Ford announced it would be discontinuing AM radio in all vehicles, gas and electric, by 2024 to cut costs, but due to customer complaints, the company has reversed its decision.

Sales workers at the Stamford Ford dealership say customers were upset about losing AM radio, adding that they wanted it in their vehicles for important emergency information and programming.

Local emergency management officials say having AM radio helps get word out to people during major weather events and other emergencies when the power goes out.

Lt. Michael Paris, with Fairfield police, told News 12 Connecticut, "Any way to communicate with the public during an emergency is extremely helpful...taking one piece out on how to reach people is detrimental to us alerting the public when we really need to."
