A large amount of funding might be coming toward a new mental health initiative for Norwalk students.

If approved, $550,000 will go to mid-Fairfield Community Care Center.

Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling says the money would go toward the Middle School Mental Health Initiative.

He says it's important to, "prioritize our youth's mental health needs."

In-school mental health services were made available to students this year.

The additional funding would allow more students to be helped.
