‘One of a kind.’ Veteran Bridgeport police officer Roger Reid remembered at funeral service
Reid, 59, served as a police officer for 26 years before retiring in 2019, though he continued working security for the City of Bridgeport until he died. Reid also worked as a security officer for Newtown High School and most recently as a security guard at Bridgeport City Hall.
A funeral for Roger Reid, a 26-year veteran of the Bridgeport Police Department, is being held this afternoon at Cathedral of Praise in the city.
Reid, 59, served as a police officer for 26 years before retiring in 2019, though he continued working security for the City of Bridgeport until he died. Reid also worked as a security officer for Newtown High School and most recently as a security guard at Bridgeport City Hall.
He died unexpectedly on July 13. A cause of death has not yet been released.
While he was on the force, Reid was known especially for his work with kids. He helped out with a youth health and wellness program at the government center. He helped the program get funding and was excited to see it grow.
Despite all this, people who knew Reid said he never asked for attention and didn't want any credit. He wasn’t active on social media – and only after his death are people finding out how many lives he touched.
"A lot of the stuff I saw in the paper – they were saying he did, a lot of stuff I didn't even know he did, and I was a friend of his who hung with him a lot,” said Herman Ham. “I just hope someone carries that torch."
Former Bridgeport Council Member Eneida Martinez said that Bridgeport “lost an individual that nobody can duplicate” and called him one of a kind.
