A Bridgeport woman dubbed "Melonie the Miracle" for battling numerous health issues at one point wasn’t expected to make it to 30. But Melonie Scott marked a miraculous milestone this month – her 43rd birthday.
“I was on the transplant list for almost 10 years," says Scott. "I had been on life support for three weeks."
Scott battled – and beat – bladder cancer, bone cancer and kidney cancer. She also has Lupus. She says she is grateful for where she is now.
"I thank God for that every day, I thank God," says Scott.
When she was airlifted to Yale New Haven Hospital in 2018, Scott says she wasn't expected to make it through the night.
"They were going to call my family in to pull the plug on me. My husband went to this church and had a service and the pastor prayed for him and she said, ‘She's fine, she's going to make it. Give it to God,’" Scott says.
Scott now needs a kidney transplant but can't afford the dental work she needs to get back on the list.
"But you know what? I'm here, I'm alive," she says, in spite of everything, moving forward as she always does. "I have air in my lungs, and I have life - and that's all that matters."
