Gov. Ned Lamont announced that the state has purchased 60 new rail cars to deliver modern amenities for commuters.

The next generation of coaches will be prioritized on the New Haven and Hartford lines. The cars will be more spacious for passengers and make it easier for people with mobility issues to maneuver around. They will also have folding tables that can be used as workstations.

"Having a modernized transit system with safe, comfortable, and convenient access to work, home, and fun is essential to attracting the kind of businesses and workforce talent we need to grow good-paying jobs and remain economically competitive," Lamont said. "Connecticut is the home of the busiest rail line in the nation, and the purchase of these new rail cars continues our efforts to deliver better and more reliable service for commuters."

The first cars are set to be delivered in 2026.
