Minor Memorial Library celebrates Arthur Miller’s birthday with panel discussion
The gathering marked 50 years since Miller’s defense of Peter Reilly’s false murder arrest and coerced confession.
The Arthur Miller Society and Writing Studio held a panel discussion in Roxbury on Saturday in honor of Miller’s birthday.
Hosted by the Minor Memorial Library, the gathering marked 50 years since Miller’s defense of Peter Reilly’s false murder arrest and coerced confession.
Reilly joined the panel with fellow advocate, Gaylord Salters, to share their experiences being wrongfully convicted.
“Sorry I get a little emotional when I think about this, but so many people came to my rescue. I still can’t fathom it 100 percent today,” says Reilly. “But the people of Litchfield County, the people of Connecticut and beyond just did so much for me and I am forever grateful.”
Actor Jack Gilpin also honored Miller by reading his short essay, “Luck and the Death Penalty.”
Miller lived in Roxbury until his death in 2005.
