Connecticut is getting 50,000 drug deactivation pouches as a part of the Prevention Starts With YOU Drug Deactivation Initiative.
State officials met in Hartford on Monday to announce the plan -- a $2 million campaign offering resources to prevent youth substance abuse.
The pouches will allow people to safely dispose of prescription drugs without having to drop them off at a pharmacy, while also keeping addictive substances away from teens.
"The Deterra pouches are a great first step towards preventing youth substance misuse, because they are [a] convenient and safe way to dispose of medications and other substances,” says Alex Kosior, of Glastonbury.
Eleven agencies across the state will distribute the Drug Deactivation Pouches -- requests can be made online.
