Bridgeport mayoral candidates take part in community forum

All four candidates running for mayor of Bridgeport participated in a community forum at Housatonic Community College Thursday.
The Bridgeport Public Education Fund, in partnership with the Greater Bridgeport NAACP, hosted the Bridgeport Mayoral Candidate Conversation.
Mayor Joe Ganim, Independent candidate John Gomes, petitioning candidate Lamond Daniels and Republican Candidate David Herz all took part in the event, moderated by the League of Women Voters Connecticut.
The forum was the first time Ganim and Gomes have been together since decision regarding their primary was decided.
The event focused on education.
"We talked about quality of education, we talked about public safety, we talked about strong and consistent economic development, but most importantly we talked about an efficient government, and the government that will eliminate wasteful spending and will work for the people," says Gomes.
"We have some 19,000 to 20,000 students in the school district. I want to make sure they get the best quality of education they can. Public safety is a priority and I keep the taxes down. We always keep the taxes down in Bridgeport. That's the hallmark of my administration," says Ganim.
Meanwhile, Daniels says the next leader needs to focus on the city's economic status, while Hertz' campaign is focused on rebuilding families.
"We have to make out streets safe. We have to bring jobs and really good economic development in our city. When I talk about jobs. I'm talking about livable wage jobs. That's not happening in our city," says Daniels.
