With 100% of the votes in, incumbent Democrat Mayor Joe Ganim beat Independent challenger John Homes by 179 votes.
This would be Ganim's eighth term as mayor of Connecticut's largest city.
The race has been under a microscope as the primary results were questioned, investigated, and ultimately thrown out due to video evidence of ballot stuffing.
On Wednesday, Ganim celebrated a victory and scoffed at a potential new primary and general election.
On election night, Gomes claimed the cheating is ongoing. Tomorrow is the deadline for a new primary date.
In Fairfield, the race is even closer – with both candidates receiving half of the popular vote. About 42 votes separate Democrat challenger Bill Gerber from Republican incumbent Brenda Kupchick.

The Gerber campaign told News 12 Wednesday the issue of large monopoles from United Illuminating, and what he called the town's "delayed response" to it, played a role in the vote for a change in leadership.
Fairfield reported 42% turnout and Bridgeport just under 20%. The statewide average was 33%.
