When the first big snow of the season hits, Bridgeport officials say the city will be ready.

Public facilities are rolling out three new snowplows this week to help prepare for any upcoming storms.

City officials said the trucks were paid for out of the city's capital budget and cost nearly $1 million.

They also said the "winter service vehicles" are specially designed to clear snow, ice, and other weather conditions.

"We haven't had snow yet, but it's coming,” said Mayor Joe Ganim. “This is New England, this is Connecticut, this is Bridgeport…we are going to get snow."

Officials said the trucks will be ready to hit the streets as soon as they're needed.

“No matter what the elements are, these trucks are operationally available and ready for whatever mother nature provides to us," said Scott Appleby, director of Emergency Management and Homeland Security for Bridgeport.
