State police: Bridgeport mother, her 2 children killed in Beacon Falls accident

State police say a Bridgeport mother injured in a crash that killed her two children in Beacon Falls, has died.
They say it happened around 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the northbound lane near Exit 23 when a Ford truck driven by a 40-year-old Oxford man rear-ended a Honda driven by a 33-year-old Stratford man. The vehicles then collided against the concrete barrier of the left lane. The northbound side of the highway was closed for several hours.
Both drivers were taken to St. Mary’s Hospital for their injuries. Andresa De Brito Alves, 25, and her two children, Riquelme Alves Brito, 3, and Laura Vitoria Alves Brito, 6, were taken to Waterbury Hospital where they died from their injuries.
"I'm grieving for this family,” said Attorney Dennis Bradley, of Bridgeport. “There's a lot of people who are dealing with grief here today.”
Relatives came together at the family's home on Beers Street Monday in the Hollow neighborhood of Bridgeport. They spoke off-camera with News 12 Connecticut’s Frank Recchia on what they described as the worst day of their lives.
Bradley said he heard about the accident on Monday morning, as word of it spread quickly through the community. He also had the opportunity to meet with family members.
"It breaks your heart, especially when it comes in the blink of an eye…so unexpectedly," said Bradley. "Bridgeport is a place with a big heart… it knows grief…when people are grieving in our community, we wrap our arms around [them]," said Bradley.
Bradley said he's offered to help the family in any way he can while they deal with the grief of losing loved ones.
"It's an absolute nightmare," said Bradley. "We want to make sure that we do our part to take care of them."
The family has started a GoFundMe.
