Bridgeport officials create PSA about drivers needing to stop when school buses having flashing lights on
The PSA is in response to data released this week that showed a total of 74 school buses equipped with stop-arm cameras recorded 9,860 vehicles illegally passing school buses that were either stopped to pick up or drop off children during the first six months of the school year.

Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim and Bridgeport police created a public service announcement Friday on drivers needing to stop when school buses have their flashing lights on.
The PSA is in response to data released this week that showed a total of 74 school buses equipped with stop-arm cameras recorded 9,860 vehicles illegally passing school buses that were either stopped to pick up or drop off children during the first six months of the school year.
Officers call the data disturbing and say they will not tolerate this behavior from drivers.
The city plans to fine $475 for a first time violation.
Officers say this an entirely preventable issue.
"Obey the traffic laws especially, all obviously violations you should obey. But especially with children. We have small children crossing the road. Even if you go through the first stop sign. If you hit a child and you intentionally go through there, its really serious consequences," says Capitan Paul Grech.
