A hearing was held in Hartford Thursday to see if teens should be prohibited from purchasing energy drinks.

Some lawmakers want to ban kids under 16 from buying them.

Wendy Kline, a mother from Hagerstown, Maryland, urged lawmakers to pass a ban after her teenage daughter died of caffeine toxicity.

"She bought an energy drink from a candy store in the mall. She came home. About two hours later, said she wasn't feeling good. Slumped over and gasped and that was it. She went into cardiac arrest at home," says Kline.

Monster Energy says Kline's daughter died from a pre-existing heart condition.

If passed, the ban would start next year. Stores would be fined up to $350.
