Officials: Man in critical condition after an apartment fire in Bridgeport

Bridgeport Fire Department said a man is in critical condition after an apartment fire in Bridgeport on Tuesday.
It happened at the Fireside Apartments on Palisade Avenue around 11 a.m.
Fire officials said the fire broke out in the man’s kitchen.
Firefighters rescued the man from a closet, they say he suffered smoke inhalation and was transported to the hospital.
"The fire damage was held to the kitchen area only, but it was a heavy smoke condition because it's a small apartment and the windows were all closed," said William Hathaway, Bridgeport’s assistant fire chief.
Hathaway said the cause of that fire is under investigation.
