The office of Connecticut's Inspector General released a report on Friday stating that an East Haven officer was justified for firing his weapon while trying to apprehend a suspect in Milford.

It happened in January 2023 when suspect Nicholas Gambardella led Lt. Joseph Finoia on a pursuit across I-95.

Officials say Gambardella extended his arms in front of his chest as if he was pointing something at the officers.

That's when Lt. Joseph Finoias fired his gun three times but did not strike him. Gambardella was then taken into custody.

The report stated Gambardella did not have a weapon.

The report concluded that Lt. Finoia used deadly force against Gambardella in order to defend himself and other officers from what he reasonably believed was the use of deadly force.
