UI, SCG, and CNG warn customers of utility scams
On Tuesday, the companies said they were notified of customers receiving calls, emails and letters from scammers claiming to be employees or consultants while requesting fraudulent charges.
United Illuminating, Southern Connecticut Gas and Connecticut Natural Gas are reminding customers to be aware of scammers posing as company representatives.

Company officials said customers should look out for red flags before making payments.
They said they do not call customers for payment if the account is in good standing.
Utility officials also warned customers of scam callers insisting on payment via a prepaid debit card or requesting a specific brand of prepaid card.
Customers who suspect they have been victims of fraud or who feel threatened during contact with a scammer should notify the company, local law enforcement authorities, and the Federal Trade Commission.
