Health officials sound the alarm as measles cases spike across the country

A Yale health expert is raising awareness of measles as cases are reported in New York and New Jersey.
Dr. Magna Dias, a professor of pediatrics at Yale School of Medicine says the U.S. typically sees a few cases of measles each year from unvaccinated travelers coming into the country.
"We are seeing already this year twice as many measles cases as we did in all of last year," said Dias.
According to Yale Medicine, between 2000 and 2018, measles vaccinations prevented an estimated 23.2 million deaths worldwide.
The CDC reports that while New York and New Jersey have reported measles cases, Connecticut has not.
