Connecticut drivers, beware: your home state isn't exactly a road trip paradise.

That's according to personal finance website WalletHub, which recently released its "Best & Worst States for Summer Road Trips in 2024."

Connecticut came in at a dismal 48th out of 50 states, placing it among the bottom three worst for summer road trips.

Researchers evaluated states based on 32 key metrics, including the number of attractions, road conditions, and overall costs.

Here's how Connecticut's metrics ranked and contributed to the state's overall rank:

  • 44th in number of attractions

  • 33rd in lowest price of three-star hotel room

  • 38th in average gas prices

  • 44th in nightlife options per capita

  • 17th in car thefts per capita

  • 50th in access to scenic byways

  • 40th in lowest price of camping

The top three best road trip destinations for summer are Texas, Minnesota, and New York. Aside from Connecticut, the worst destinations are Rhode Island and Delaware.
