With snow and ice on the way for Thursday morning's commute, city workers started preparing to treat the roads well in advance.

“We’ll be ready for whatever time it starts," Supervisor Bob Vesciglio says. "Whether it’s two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, you’re on ice. You’re going to lose control. Let us do our work and we’ll be fine."

Recent storms have ended before rush hour or have happened during holiday weekends with lighter volume on the roadways, CT DOT spokesperson Josh Morgan says.

"But this looks like it’s going to be smack dab in the middle of morning rush hour," Morgan says.

Highway officials are warning drivers to go slow and, if possible, delay their travel plans for Thursday morning.

“If you see the pavement is a little bit shiny, don’t assume that it’s wet, assume it’s gonna be ice," Morgan says. "No sudden movements behind the wheel, and don’t slam on your brakes."
