Tuesday is World Wish Day – marking the anniversary of the first wish ever granted by Make-A-Wish.

That wish was granted in 1980 when a young boy out west wanted to be a police officer. Six years later, Make-A-Wish Connecticut in Trumbull started granting wishes. It now grants 250 wishes a year.

Many wish kids want to travel. Others want to meet their heroes. The staff knows they are making a difference in the lives of children with critical illnesses.

"It's the reason I come to work every day. To see that joy and the strength of these kids and these families is incredible and to be able to give them something to look forward to or something that they might not get otherwise and to see the joy on their face is just amazing," said Kris Moran with Make-A-Wish Connecticut.

Make-A-Wish Connecticut just raised $600,000 from the Jersey Mike's Make-A-Wish Day last month.

Every time a wish is granted in Trumbull, the staff rings a bell. Those bells were ringing Tuesday.
