A new campaign aimed at making local roads safer for everyone launched Monday in Fairfield.

The "Safe Streets" initiative encourages safer behavior whether residents are driving, biking, or walking.

"The Fairfield Police Department brings a wealth of experience, training and first-hand knowledge to this initiative," said Chief Robert Kalamaras. "We know what is at stake, and we are proud to support this mission to keep our community safe, and move closer to a future free of serious injuries and fatality accidents."

Officials are also asking residents to take the town's new safety pledge.
