McGrath family withdraws lawsuit against homeowners where fatal stabbing occurred
Court documents show that the civil lawsuit was withdrawn Thursday "without costs to any party."

The family of Jimmy McGrath has withdrawn a lawsuit against the owners of the Shelton home where the 17-year-old was killed in 2022.

The family still has several other lawsuits that are moving forward.
Michael Rosnick, the McGrath's family's attorney, sent News 12 a statement Sunday night about the lawsuit withdrawal. It reads:
"The parties were able to reach a fair and reasonable settlement of the various claims as set forth in the Plaintiffs’ complaints. This is the beginning of our efforts to hold responsible all those who participated in the chain of events on May 14, 2022 that contributed to the tragic killing of James McGrath."
On May 14, 2022, McGrath, a Fairfield Prep student, was fatally stabbed by Raul Valle while at a party at the home of Ronald and Stacie Rich on Laurel Glen Drive.
The suit claimed that the couple supplied alcohol and knew minors were drinking underage. It also alleged that the couple did not supervise the party and or intervene when a fight broke out.
That fight led to four people, including McGrath, being stabbed. The three stabbing survivors testified during Valle's trial.
In July, Valle was found not guilty.
