East End Bridgeport church, pastor celebrate 'major milestone'

A church known for its community outreach celebrated a major milestone in Bridgeport on Sunday.
Calvary New Testament Church of God on the East End celebrated its 20th anniversary.
"We are very excited because we started as a home church -- literally holding services in the attic of our home -- and we have since grown to fill this $1.5 million building open to the community," said Bishop Fearon Blake. "It's amazing and we are deeply grateful for this rich blessing."
Blake is known for working with people who are facing hardships, and for helping them turn their lives around.
"That's my calling," he said.
Paulette Edwards has been a parishioner at the church since before it had a brick-and-mortar home.
"We are so proud of the work Bishop Blake does because he has changed so many lives, working with folks going through every kind of crisis," she said.
