1 killed when car strikes stone wall in Norwalk

Fire officials say the crash caused heavy front-end damage to the vehicle. Firefighters used hydraulic extrication tools to remove Anthony Martinez from the vehicle in less than five minutes.

A man was killed after his car crashed into a stone wall in Norwalk early Saturday morning, police say.

It happened at 2:12 a.m. at the intersection of East Avenue and Van Zant Street.

Police say 24-year-old Anthony Martinez was traveling east on Van Zant Street when he continued through the intersection at East Avenue. He then collided with a stone wall at the East Norwalk Historical Cemetery.

Fire officials say the crash caused heavy front-end damage to the vehicle. Firefighters used hydraulic extrication tools to remove Martinez from the vehicle in less than five minutes.

Martinez was taken to Norwalk Hospital where he later passed away.

He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
