The Westport Police Department is in mourning after the death of former chief Alfred R. Fiore.
The department says he died Saturday morning after falling seriously ill in connection to a chronic health condition.
He was 69 years old.
His 70th birthday would have been in January.
Fiore started as a Westport police officer back in 1978 and served as chief from 2004 to 2010.
Police say they are forever grateful for Fiore's leadership, example, and guidance.
Memorial services were still being finalized as of Saturday night.
