A protest was held in Bridgeport Saturday against President Donald Trump’s military action in Venezuela.
Deposed Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro arrived in the United States on Saturday to face criminal charges after being captured in an audacious nighttime military operation that President Trump said would set the U.S. up to “run” the South American country and tap its vast oil reserves to sell to other nations.
Participants gathered in front of the train station, calling the events a breach of executive authority.
Many protesters believe the invasion should not have occurred without congressional approval.
“I was unfortunately not shocked because of this administration, but really disappointed and embarrassed,” said Todd Sample.
“It's illegal, it's unconstitutional – it goes against norms and precedents,” said Andy Liverant, of Fairfield. “On top of that, all it's just a distraction from people losing their health care, from thousands of government workers losing their jobs, from killing green energy."
Protesters told News 12 they plan to continue holding peaceful demonstrations to express their disapproval.
